2013 will be the best year for music in my lifetime

I’ve been saying this since February but I haven’t committed it to Internet because I wanted to be certain. Now I am certain.

We will look back at 2013 as the best year for music in my lifetime.

Kind of a bold statement, but lets break it down. We are a third of the way into the year and we’ve already had albums from Justin Timberlake, David Bowie, Phoenix, and Generationals. Off to a pretty great start, even though I’m currently ‘meh’ about the Phoenix album. I want to give it another shot.

Tailored to my tastes, my current favorite band Frightened Rabbit released their fourth studio album and started touring the US. Rilo Kiley, a band that broke up in 2011 even though they hadn’t put out an album in 4 years, released 17 tracks of previously unreleased material aptly named Rkives.

And this month Vampire Weekend, Daft Punk, and Anamanaguchi all have albums coming out.

Kevin Devine used Kickstarter to raise the funds to release 2 albums this year, and I have it on good authority that he’s going to make good on that promise.

Also, The Postal Service and Modest Mouse headlined Coachella. The former was an a experimental band that released one album in 2003 the latter hasn’t had an album since 2007. They have both been touring. We got a newly released old song from The Postal Service, and Modest Mouse has been playing three new songs as they tour around the West Coast. Fingers crossed that we’re going to get a new Modest Mouse album by the end of the year.

And doesn’t it feel like we’re due for a new Girl Talk album? It just feels like it’s time.

Those are just the things off the top of my head. I’ll continue to post about this as more things come out / are announced.

Spitting Venom is one of the greatest songs of all time.

It’s really time for Modest Mouse to record another album. We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank was really good, but it was 5 years ago. Come on dudes.
